On February 8, 2018, Germany’s brightest innovators met in Bielefeld to chart a digital future together with leadership from some of the hidden champions of the nation’s economy. This first-time conference called “Hinterland of Things” connected industry, SMEs, and startups in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region, otherwise known as “OWL”. NOVEMBER 2017

Club of Three is an initiative between several European states that brings together senior members of business, politics, academia and the media. The aim of the initiative is to provide an informal platform to discuss solutions to the greatest challenges faced by Europe.

Our CEO, Harald, was invited to speak at one of their senior meetings to share his vision for the future of digitalization. Specific points of discussion were around how digitalization can better democratic debate and drive better policy decisions, how digitalization can provide new opportunities for regions and communities left behind, and how to make internet-connected devices safer.

Harald's keynote was preceded by Nick Coleman - Global Head of Cyber Security Intelligence at IBM and Edie Lush - Executive Editor at Hub Culture and Former Chair of British American Project (BAP).

Innovation competitions can present a great opportunity for startups to promote themselves and become recognised as leaders in their fields by respected awards bodies. Our smart building startup, Metr, were shortlisted from 74 startups to pitch their venture along with 19 others at the Degewo innovation competition "Smart Up The City 2017"0 at Telefónica BASECAMP.

The competition, organised by Berlin’s leading housing association Degewo, aimed to reveal the greatest business models and technologies in the areas of real estate management, energy supply, building automation, mobility and communication. Ulrich Jursch, Managing Director of degewo netzWerk GmbH revealed that the ideas of all 20 selected start-ups are characterized by the convincing approaches that address an existing problem for housing construction companies.

From the 20 startups selected to pitch, Metr have been selected as one of five finalists.

To mark 50 years of partnership between Berlin and Los Angeles, TOA LA hosted an event in the Californian city to celebrate. The event was held to bring Los Angeles, San Francisco and Berlin closer together, driving innovation and cooperation between these world leading tech cities in the fields of technology, science, research and environmental protection.

Governing Mayor of Berlin Michael Müller said "By visiting Los Angeles, we not only want to bring Berlin’s attitude towards life to L.A., we also want to intensify and expand our strategic cooperation in the cultural and creative sector, in startups, technology, and science and research, and in climate and environmental protection."

As a leading figure in the German tech scene, our CEO was invited to speak at TOA LA to present Next Big Thing AG, and what we are doing to accelerate the adoption of IoT throughout Europe.

SEPTEMBER 2017

Our blockchain startup, Eciotify, was invited to present at the Frankfurt Business School for Ethereum Summer Camp. The event was held to showcase potential applications of IoT an blockchain.

Martin of weeve spent the week at the event teaching teams of people how to realise their ideas with development workshops and discussions. The week closed with presentations from the teams and the projects they had spent the week working on as well as talks from influential speakers including members of NBT.
